Maggie Mac is an affectionate homage to the beautiful art of Margaret Macdonald Mackintosh, one of Scottish Art Nouveau’s Four, alongside her husband Charles Rennie Mackintosh, her sister Frances Macdonald, and James Herbert Macnair. While everyone has heard of Mackintosh, the ‘Glasgow Girls’ are underappreciated, despite being in the forefront of the creation of the world-renowned Glasgow style. Mackintosh himself said Margaret had genius, while he merely had talent. The design uses colours favoured by Margaret (and Frances) and reinterprets the flowing female figures rendered in gesso and natural materials in their work.
